Faith Statement
Statement of Faith
The Holy Bible is the inspired Word of God and is the basis for any statement of faith. The church subscribes to the doctrinal statement of the Baptist Faith and Message as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention in 1963. We band ourselves together as a body of baptized believers in Jesus Christ, personally committed to sharing the good news of salvation to lost mankind. The ordinances of the church are Baptism and the Lord's Supper.
Objectives of Third Street Baptist Church
To be a dynamic spiritual organism empowered by the Holy Spirit to share Christ with as many people as possible in our church, community and throughout the world.
To be a worshiping fellowship, experiencing an awareness of God, recognizing His person, and responding in obedience to His leadership.
To experience an increasingly meaningful fellowship with God and fellow believers.
To help people experience a growing knowledge of God and man.
To be a church that ministers unselfishly to persons in the community and world in Jesus' name.
To be a church whose purpose is to be Christ like in our daily living by emphasizing total commitment of life, personality and possessions to the lordship of Christ.
These statements were adopted by the church in 1987.
History of Church
Located in the heart of Arkadelphia, Third Street Baptist Church was organized by a group of college students with a burden for reaching lost souls in an area of town that was not being reached by other churches.
Since that time, Third Street Baptist Church has grown and seen many changes in our facilities. Yet the one thing that has not changed is the desire of our people to share Jesus Christ with as many people as possible in our community and throughout the world.
ABOUT OUR CHURCH . . . . .
Third Street Baptist Church began in 1949 as a mission of the Lakeview Baptist Church. The early church founders held their first meetings in a tent until a house was leased on the corner of Third and Walnut Streets in which the members met until March 1953. The first church building was constructed in 1953.
From its humble beginnings in the 1950's, Third Street has exploded into one of the most aggressive churches in the state. Our present membership is growing and the church operates many outreach ministries. Each ministry is a grace ministry serving the needs of people regardless of their financial status.
Third Street has enjoyed the leadership of eleven different pastors. Two of the early leaders of the church were the Rev. C.R. McCollum, who served as pastor from May 1951 to September 1956 and Dr. George T. Blackmon, who served from September 1958 to September 1965.
We have definitely come a long way. Although our physical surroundings have changed, our spiritual calling to be ministers remains the same. With new ministries on the horizon, it could very well be that our best days are yet to come.
